Building puzzles is an almost daily activity around here.
Our entire week has been dominated by board and card games. This morning I found them already in the midst of a game of Uno when I got up.
They’ve also been enjoying Apples to Apples.
As usually, we spent some time at playgrounds. That’s fairly non-negotiable when the weather allows for it.
He loves sketching animals at the zoo. He also loves wearing his Pterodactyl cape.
She’s currently in the midst of the Inkheart trilogy, and seems to be thoroughly enjoying it.
Naturally when some cousins came to visit the kids decided to pull out a favorite board game.

It’s really nice to be able to get out of the house without kids on occasion. I highly recommend it.
The two of them decided to cuddle together while watching a movie today.
There’s something for everyone at a book store. Granted, some of the kids were more Interested in playing with trains than browsing for reading materials, but that’s okay.
He often spends his days building awesome LEGO creations. They’re well worth the time!
He may enjoy quietly building by himself, but he’s also a very active guy. He tends to make the most of a trip to a playground.
He’s happier crawling around on the floor to build than sitting at an actual table. And that’s okay.

He thinks the best place to build with DUPLO bricks is to sit in the tub along with them. He’s not wrong.

N has been teaching his little brother how to play chess. He’s been developing his own methods to teach him the basic concepts of the game. He’s very proud of his teaching skills.
Today we built a 3D puzzle together. It was a first for the kids, and they loved it!
He recently decided to embraced reading and his skill at it. Here he is, finishing a book completely on his own for the first time!
They love building contraptions with this vintage Erector Set.
Gaming with cousins and an aunt can be a lot of fun.
They had a blast today, all costumed up along with some assorted cousins.

He gets very excited about new discoveries in Minecraft.
She’s concentrating hard, trying to decide out how best to draw a tiger.
She wants to be as capable as her big siblings, particularly when it comes to climbing on playground equipment.

For some reason the kitchen has been a favorite playplace lately. They’re doing a lot of different things right now, but they’re also together.
He’s been moving beyond DUPLO bricks lately and has is very proud of his most recent LEGO build.
The entire morning has been consumed by the construction and operation of a DUPLO railroad. H has been a great big sister, helping M to design amd build it all.
It doesn’t seem very long ago that I started this photo project, but now it’s nearly at an end. Only ten more weeks and we’ll be at the end of the year! I don’t know if I’ll continue the series for another year, but for right now I hope you enjoy this week’s glimpse into…
He loves sharks and he loves shark books. This morning he’s particularly excited about Whale Sharks!

The kids play chess, and so do I. My board is set up for my next game in the Colorado Open chess tournament.
It’s been a good week for playing outside, finding insects, reading books and playing chess. And that’s mostly what we’ve been doing, as you’ll see in this week’s Unschooled Lens!
M is absolutely shark-crazed right now. He plays with shark figures and stuffed animals, reads shark books, talks about sharks constantly, and especially enjoys watching documentaries about sharks!
We encountered a fair bit of rain while backpackingl, but N was prepared!

It’s always fun to look at the assortment of books the kids pick out at the library. Their varied interests are well reflected, though books about animals usually make up the bulk of their borrowing.
Novels and Minecraft books make for a nice, quiet morning.
N found a recipe for Ice Cream Sundaes that he thinks looks delicious, and set to work reading it so he can make them properly.
She’s still working on mastering her chosen second language!
