January Book Roundup

Now that we’ve got three avid readers among our children (and another learning very quickly) we decided to keep track of all the books our family reads this year. Books we read by ourselves, audiobooks we listen to, books we read together, etc. We’re not counting picture books since that would make things rather unwieldy, and it turns out it’s already a bit difficult to keep track of all the books that we collectively churn through.

To help with it all, we’ve set up a Google docs form where the kids can enter information of each book as they finish it, and that’s helping somewhat. At present we’re up to a total of 47 books for January alone, and they’ve all read some books that they really love!

Here are some of their top recommendations for the month:

The Adventurers Guild

“The way the authors build their characters is very realistic. I like that it’s very descriptive and it’s just right for kids about my age. If you like adventure and magic these would be the perfect books for you.”

H, age 9, on The Adventurers Guild by Zack Loran Clark and Nick Elipulos

Hamstersaurus Rex

“If you like funnyness, mad scientists, adventure, hamsters, and dinosaurs, THIS is the book you’re looking for!”

A, age 9, on the Hamstersaurus Rex series, by Tom O’Donnell

WoF - The Hidden Kingdom

“They’re adventurous books. The Dragons have really fun adventures, and I like how the author describes things.”

N, age 10, on the Wings of Fire series, by Tui T. Sutherland
