Snapshot of an Unschool Morning

January 17, 2018August 30, 2018 The Dad Hatter

It’s a cold morning, though the snow has mostly melted. The lack of snow means there’s not a lot of interest around the house in playing outside, so it’s an inside kind of day.

Which also makes it a day full of spontaneous learning. Continue reading “Snapshot of an Unschool Morning”

I did most of our @bluekazoogames puzzle, but as it neared completion they all wanted to finish a piece of it. #puzzle #jigsawpuzzle #homeschool #unschooling #dadlife
They're all set up and waiting for a #chesskid tournament in a few minutes. In-person tournaments are all cancelled of course, but they can still get some serious games in! #chess #chesskids #unschooling #unschoolinglife #homeschool
This is what the #calwoodfire looks like from northern #longmont Hopefully everyone who needs to can evacuate safely. #mountainfires #colorado
None of them have a good grasp on the strategy of the game, but they're still having a lot of fun spending a morning with Risk. #riskboardgame #boardgames #unschooling #dadlife
I got up at 4:30 this morning to bake scones for my wife before she headed off to work. Hopefully the kids enjoy them too. Next, I think I'll throw together a cheesecake.
It's still dark outside, but I've been up for hours, baking, cleaning the kitchen, trimming and seasoning an 18lb brisket before tossing it in the smoker. Normal sorts of things. Now it's time to enjoy a latte and a freshly baked sourdough brioche cinnamon roll slathered in cream cheese frosting while reading an interesting book. All before the kids get up and the day really begins.
The kids have a playground to themselves while there's not yet much smoke in the air. I've got a freshly home-brewed latte and the first book in a recently concluded trilogy by one of my favorite authors. Not a bad way to start the day. #bookstagram #bookish #unschooling #dadlife #sahd
